Let’s connect
your two phones.
Keep this guide nearby the first time. Start in a quiet place with both phones in front of you.
1 Share a connection.
Choose the connection you want to use. Both options keep the audio link between the two phones.
On each iPhone, open Settings → Wi-Fi. Connect both to the same network. Your home Wi-Fi is a good place to start.
Some guest or public networks prevent devices from finding one another. If you cannot connect there, try a Personal Hotspot.
- On the phone you will listen with, open Settings → Personal Hotspot and turn on Allow Others to Join.
- On the microphone phone, open Settings → Wi-Fi. Select the listening phone’s name and enter the hotspot password shown on that phone.
- Return to Huh? on both phones. Keep them within range of the hotspot.
Personal Hotspot availability depends on your carrier and plan. Other activity on a connected phone may use cellular data.
2 Get Huh? on both iPhones.
Open the Huh? beta invitation on each iPhone. Follow Apple’s instructions to install TestFlight, then accept the invitation and install Huh?. Both phones need iOS 17 or later.
Allow Local Network access when Huh? asks. The phone acting as a microphone also needs Microphone permission.
3 Choose who does what.
On your listening phone, tap I want to HEAR. A six-digit number appears.
On the phone near the person speaking, tap I want to BE HEARD. Let everyone nearby know this phone will send live audio, then enter the six-digit number. The sixth digit starts the connection.
4 Check the sound together.
Place the microphone phone near the person speaking and keep it visible. Speak normally. Check the status on both phones and make sure the listener can hear the live sound.
Huh? uses the listening iPhone’s selected audio output. If you use headphones or another audio device, connect it in iOS before starting. Begin at a comfortable volume and adjust with the iPhone’s volume buttons.
If the phone speakers feed back into the microphone, lower the volume, move the phones apart, or try headphones. If you hear an echo or doubled voice, try a different placement or output.
5 Take a break when you want.
The listener can tap Pause, then Resume to listen again without entering a new code. Pause silences listening; it does not necessarily turn off the other phone’s microphone.
In the updated beta, the microphone phone also has Mute and Unmute. Mute stops that phone from sending microphone audio while keeping the connection. The microphone may remain active, and iOS may still show its microphone indicator. A listener’s Pause and a speaker’s Mute are separate choices.
Tap Stop to end the audio stream. Keep the microphone phone in Huh? and visible while you use it.

Start with the connection and audio checks. A phone call or audio route change can interrupt a session; check both screens after it ends.
